An Airline Transport Pilot certificate has the privileges of a Commercial Pilot certificate with an Instrument Rating and the practical test covers tasks associated with both of those.
Your FAA practical test (check ride) will be conducted in accordance with
the FAA Practical Test Standards (PTS). It is important that you have the
latest version of the PTS with the current change notices. The current PTS can be viewed and downloaded at:
Please read this document carefully including the Introduction section.
You will need the Adobe reader to view and print this. It is available at
The tasks that must be performed are detailed in the PTS and differ depending upon what class or type (if a type rating is required) of airplane we use for the exam and which certificates and class ratings you currently hold.
The first thing you will need to do is go to the IACRA website (https://iacra.faa.gov) and complete your FAA application online. Your instructor should assist you to be certain that all entries are complete and correct. If this is your first time on IACRA you will need to register. You will be assigned an FAA Tracking Number (FTN) that you need to record in a safe place as this will stay with you for all subsequent tests. Be sure to bring this number and your user ID and password to the test. You do not need an instructor signoff for this exam unless you have previously failed the test. If you have previously failed the test your instructor will access your IACRA application and electronically sign it so that you may retake the test.
Be sure to bring your non-expired photo ID, IACRA FTN number, user ID, and password to the test. Any current government issued ID is acceptable (U.S. driver license, passport, military ID, etc.).
My fee for this exam is $625.00 for Single Engine or $725.00 for Multi-Engine. There is a $25.00 discount for cash payment. The fee is the same for additional class or type ratings added to an existing certificate. I accept cash, checks and all major credit cards.
We also offer a fixed price option that includes four hours of aircraft time, all flight and ground instructor time, and the check ride fee. This is for pilots that are instrument current and possess at least a Commercial Pilot certificate with an instrument rating. The cost for this program is $2995.00.
Please feel free to call me with any questions.
